What Is Zalgo Text?

Zalgo text is that creepy, glitchy-looking text that seems to be "corrupted" or "haunted." It gets its name from Zalgo, an internet horror meme character associated with chaos and corruption.

The effect is created by stacking Unicode combining characters (diacritical marks) above, below, and through regular letters. These marks were originally designed for accents in languages, but when you add dozens of them, you get the iconic "glitch" effect.

Example: H̷̢̛̫̘̮͓̲̺̻̘̩͇̦̼̩̭̝̠͓͎̝̗̪̱̲̖̩̻̝̥̤̯̣̼͖̫̦̹̻̤̲̱̣͚̰̦͇̬̬̗̙̯̜͔̀̔̂̈́̈́̿̔͒̅͋̅͑̑͆̋́̐́̓͐́͂̐̽̐̍̈̈̚̚͜͝͝͝ͅe̷l̵l̶o̷

How Does It Work?

Every Zalgo character is actually your original letter plus multiple combining characters:

  • Above: Characters like ◌̃ (tilde), ◌̂ (circumflex), ◌̈ (diaeresis)
  • Middle: Characters that strike through the letter
  • Below: Characters like ◌̣ (dot below), ◌̱ (macron below)

When you set "Insane" intensity, we're adding 10+ of these characters to each letter!

Tips for Best Results

  1. Start with "Normal" intensity - too much Zalgo can become unreadable
  2. Short phrases work best - long paragraphs become chaotic
  3. "Above" only creates a crown effect ♔
  4. "Below" only creates a dripping effect
  5. Use Regenerate to get different random variations
  6. Some platforms may filter excessive Zalgo text

Compatibility Note

Zalgo text works in most modern platforms but may display differently:

  • ✅ Discord, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram
  • ✅ Most messaging apps
  • ⚠️ Some websites may strip combining characters
  • ⚠️ Very intense Zalgo may cause display issues on older devices
